Kraven the Hunter has finally been released in theaters after several delays and, following the culminating events of the film, audiences have been left wondering exactly how Knull fits into Marvel"s future. While many of the Kraven reviews have been negative, some viewers have still connected with what has worked in the film.
Much of this appreciation for Kraven comes from the history and comic book canon of the villain, as well as several of the other characters the film introduced, increasing the scope of the universe.
Kraven has been rumored to be a core component of a Sony Sinister Six movie for some time, and Kraven does set that potential spinoff up in some ways. For example,
allusions are made to a doctor who has been assisting the Chameleon who fits the description of Morbius. With Venom possibly being dead, it would theoretically make sense if the other anti-heroes banded together somehow, potentially being protagonists in the teased confrontation with Knull. However, scenes from the new film - as well as updates from the studio - suggest the universe may be taking a different direction entirely with Knull.
Venom 3 Introduced A Thanos-Level Villain In Knull But Barely Used Him Knull Played A Small Part In The Last Dance Close In Venom: The Last Dance, the Symbiote God Knull was introduced as an Avengers-level threat in the film"s trailer, leading to speculation concerning the size of Knull"s role in the final film. In the end,
Knull received barely any screentime in Venom 3, with director Kelly Marcel revealing at San Diego Comic-Con that "This is just the introduction to Knull." With that in mind, speculation has since grown concerning the villain"s future. Indeed, following this, audiences generally believed that Knull would grow to be a larger threat to Sony"s universe.
The difficulty with this is that the character of Venom has been removed from the equation. While the ending of Venom: The Last Dance set up that the symbiote may have survived,
the character of Venom as he has been understood is gone. With that personal relationship with the King in Black also removed, many have speculated that the future of Sony’s Universe would become clear with the release of Kraven the Hunter. Instead, that film has released, and the path forward now appears to be smaller and different compared to what was expected.
Kraven The Hunter Appears To Be The End Of Sony's Spider-Man Universe New Reports Indicate Sony Has No Further Plans For Their Villain-Centric Universe Close Sony"s Spider-Man Universe future seems to be changing, with Kraven the Hunter now set to be the last film in the universe, at least for the time being. While the studio did not concretely announce that their universe will be ending, they did announce that they have no future spinoffs set for the time being. It is clear that the franchise has seen little box-office success outside of the Venom films and, as a result,
Sony is potentially pivoting to focus instead on their projects starring an actual Spider-Man, which include the animated Spider-Verse films and the upcoming Spider-Man 4 starring Tom Holland.
Notably, Kraven was supposed to come out long before Venom 3, and seems to have been finished for some time. With this in mind, it seems that
most of the teases revealed in Kraven, adding several other Spider-Man characters to the universe, may have been separate from the plans for Knull. With Calypso, Rhino, and Chameleon introduced, and no mention of Knull, it seems that the future of the universe had more than one vision. With these new announcements, however, it now looks unlikely that either Knull or Kraven will continue in the Sony Spider-Man Universe.
So, What Was The Point Of Knull? It Is Beginning To Look Like There Was Never A Plan For Sony's Knull Close Knull"s small role in Venom 3 was explained as being only a taster for the villain, and that he would surely return. Only hinted at in the film, with a brief appearance,
the character, played by Andy Serkis, seemed to be being set up to be a massive threat within Sony"s universe. This built an expection that audiences would see Knull appear in future projects, but now there are no more projects in this universe in active development. With Sony taking a break from their films, it is beginning to look like the studio never really had a concrete plan for the character.
However, this perspective is naturally without an understanding of the full internal dealings at hand, and thus could well be wrong, as it is possible Sony has a longer-term plan in mind. While Sony does not have announced plans to continue with any more villain spinoffs in the near future, intending to focus instead on Spider-Man films, this does not necessarily mean that the universe is over.
The Venom trilogy was too popular to abandon altogether, and will surely see some continuation eventually, even if that is just in a spinoff. This could lead to a future for Knull, although it will not happen anytime soon.
How The MCU Could Redeem Knull The King In Black Would Be An Excellent Villain For Spider-Man 4 Close Andy Serkis’ Knull could still be redeemed, as long as Sony makes the right choices for the character. Theories about Knull in Spider-Man 4 have circled for some time, with
many believing that Venom and Spider-Man may team up in the film to take down the Symbiote God. Tying the villain and his story in with the larger MCU through the acclaimed Tom Holland Spider-Man films would help to make Knull"s entrance feel more significant and impactful. This would also elevate the canon status of the Venom movies as a fringe benefit.
While Sony"s Universe has had some successes, audiences are still clearly more interested in Spider-Man than they are in other characters in his world.
Using this opportunity to align the universes a little more closely would be the best way to redeem Knull. This would also provide the chance to bring in Kraven the Hunter, a villain many have hoped to see Spider-Man face in his films for some time. Seeing these foes against Spider-Man, or even the trio of Spider-Men, would make for an enormous film that could provide a proper culmination and sendoff to Sony"s universe.

It is not too late to align Sony"s Spider-Man characters with the larger universe that Spider-Man now inhabits, especially in the Multiverse Saga. Doing this would allow for Knull to make a significant impact on Spider-Man"s life and universe in compelling ways that would make the villain"s appearance not feel wasted. While
Kraven the Hunter did not do much to expand Knull"s story, and while the state of that universe feels like it may be at an end, there are still opportunities to learn from mistakes and continue on with what has worked in the future.
